Green light for new leisure facilities in Reading

Work is due to get underway on two new leisure centres in Reading this summer after receiving planning approval.

Greenwich Leisure Ltd (GLL), which currently manages Rivermead Leisure Centre on behalf of Reading Council, will operate the new leisure facilities at Rivermead and Palmer Park when they open.

The existing leisure centre at Rivermead will remain open until the new site is complete, which will offer a 25m eight-lane competition pool with 300 spectator seats, a combined teaching and diving pool with moveable floor, splash pads, a six-court sports hall with 250 spectator seats, 120-station gym with three studios and a café/ information hub and soft play area.

At Palmer Park, in addition to the refurbishment of the existing stadium building, there will be a new 25m six-lane pool, 100-station gym with three studios, an activity zone for children with party rooms, and a new café and information hub.

There will also be improvements at South Reading and Meadway leisure centres.

The new facilities are expected to complete in early 2023.
