A local businessman has acquired the assets of Macclesfield Town Football Club.
New owner Rob Smethurst aims to preserve and rejuvenate the club, whilst building relationships within the community, working closely with schools and providing free coaching and access.
“My vision over the coming months and years is to rebuild the club, pitch and stadium facilities and re-invest the income generated from that back into the creating a first team and into the club overall,” said Smethurst.
Plans include changing the current pitch to 4G to ensure it is utilised as much as possible by local teams, schools and community sports events, adding a gym, creating classrooms and revamping the bars and hospitality areas.
“I recognised the need to revitalise a club that is so very important to Macclesfield, the fans the community, and presents the opportunity to create jobs within the local area and to hopefully get Macclesfield Town FC reinstated into the lower divisions at NWFCL level. We’re looking forward to becoming an integral part of Macclesfield and the local footballing community here at Moss Rose.”
