The UK’s first dedicated nationwide commercial fund for skateboarding projects has launched today through a partnership between Skateboard GB and Subway.
The Subway Skate Fund will offer £15,000 in open funding for skateboard-related projects across the UK, including community programmes, creative initiatives, new obstacles, events and coaching schemes.
The initiative has been designed to be more accessible than many traditional funding routes. It is not tied to location, organisation type or project category, and is open to unincorporated groups, community organisers and individual skateboarders.
Skateboard GB and Subway said the fund would help remove barriers that have historically limited access to support within the sport.
The launch builds on an existing partnership between the two organisations to expand skateboarding across the UK. Together, they have already supported six skatepark projects in local communities, attracting several thousand people to launch events and highlighting demand for accessible, community-driven skate spaces.
James Hope-Gill, chief executive of Skateboard GB, said: ‘This fund is a landmark moment for skateboarding in the UK. For the first time, anyone with a great idea to support their local scene can access funding without restrictive criteria. Skateboarding thrives when creativity and community lead the way, and this fund is designed to empower exactly that.’
Kirstey Elston, senior director of marketing at Subway, said: ‘Through our Fresh Moves programme, we’re committed to helping create more opportunities for people to get active in ways that feel relevant and accessible to them. Our partnership with Skateboard GB allows us to support communities at the heart of Subway, whether that’s improving local spaces, widening access, or helping new participants get involved. We’re excited to see the positive impact this fund will have across the UK.’
Applications are open now and will close on Friday 26 June. Skateboard GB and Subway will then review and shortlist submissions, with the first successful project expected to be announced in mid-July.
The fund aims to support projects that strengthen local skateboarding scenes, widen participation and celebrate the culture and creativity at the heart of the sport.
