Works Begin on Regeneration Project at The PEAK

This month construction has begun at The PEAK Leisure Centre in Stirling, Scotland marking the start of a £2.45 million investment that will substantially increase the size of the gym and create two purpose-built fitness studios.

Set to complete in April 2026, the project, led by Alliance Leisure, will deliver modern, inspiring spaces designed to meet the needs of the centre’s growing membership and support the health and wellbeing of the wider community.

First opened in 2009, The PEAK has become a cornerstone of Stirling’s community. Originally designed to support around 3,500 members, the centre now caters for more than 8,000  with over half regularly using the gym and fitness studios. This latest investment by Stirling Council, funded through Prudential Borrowing, will ensure the centre continues to meet the growing needs of residents while supporting wider ambitions around health, wellbeing, and financial sustainability.

The project will repurpose three courts of the existing nine-court sports hall, creating an extended first-floor gym alongside two ground floor studios via a mezzanine structure.

A team of leisure specialists, led by Alliance Leisure, has been assembled to deliver the project through the UK Leisure Framework. Scotland-based Thomas Johnstone Ltd has been appointed as lead contractor, working alongside CD Architects, Axiom Project Services for Project management and Quantity Surveying, Struer as structural consultant and Wallace Whittle as mechanical and electrical consultant. ABT Safety will act as principal designer, with Hutchi providing specialist AV and lighting services.

The PEAK, managed by Active Stirling on behalf of Stirling Council, will continue to provide a vital service to the community throughout the works, with just the sports hall usage suspended until works complete and the new facilities become available.

“The PEAK Redevelopment Project marks a bold and exciting new chapter for Stirling. We are creating a space that truly meets the needs of our growing community – a place where everyone can find opportunities to improve their health, connect with others, and feel part of something special.”

Matt Bunnell, Interim CEO, Active Stirling

“The PEAK already plays a vital role in Stirling's active landscape, but with membership more than doubling since opening, it's clear that demand has outgrown provision. This investment will deliver the modern, accessible, and inspiring spaces needed to support residents in living healthier, more active lives.”

Jo Cameron, Alliance Delivery Manager
