A new three-storey Anytime Fitness gym has opened at Abbey Quay, the flagship riverside development by Weston Homes in Barking. The 9,000 sq ft facility is the latest London site for the global fitness franchise and forms part of the growing community around the River Roding.
The £1.5 million club sits beside Jasper Wharf, Barking’s newest landmark residential tower, and offers a range of high-end training, wellness and recovery spaces. It is open 24 hours a day, year-round, and is equipped with machines from leading brands including Precor, Wattbike, Assault Fitness, Concept 2, Torque and Jordan.
Spread across two main floors and a mezzanine, the gym has been designed as a comprehensive destination for strength training, cardio, performance and recovery. The ground floor features multiple squat racks, bench press stations and an extensive range of resistance and plate-loaded machines, including several specialist Glutebuilder units.
The first floor provides an open, light-filled space with eight-metre ceilings and floor-to-ceiling glazing. It includes a broad free-weights area, cable machines, a cardio suite, and a boxing and functional training zone. The mezzanine level houses a dedicated recovery area with HydroMassage beds, compression boots, body-composition analysis and massage-therapy tools, along with private bathrooms and vanity areas.
The club also offers digital lockers, complimentary toiletries, subsidised hot drinks and ‘free fruit Fridays’. Membership grants access to more than 5,000 Anytime Fitness sites worldwide, with numbers capped locally to avoid overcrowding. Entry is restricted to members aged 18 and over, and a set of house rules is in place to maintain a mature and welcoming atmosphere. A mobile app provides real-time club usage updates and AI-generated workout plans.
Abbey Quay is set to deliver just under 1,200 new homes across a series of contemporary buildings ranging from seven to 29 storeys, along with over 25,000 sq ft of commercial and leisure space. More than 60% of residents have already moved into the current phase, with Jasper Wharf now under construction and due to bring further new homes, amenities and public spaces.
Baldeep Singh Matharu, director of Anytime Fitness Barking, said the new location was ideal for the brand. He added that growing up in Barking made the launch particularly meaningful, noting that the area had long deserved a high-quality fitness facility.
