The Gym Group opens seven new sites

The Gym Group, the UK’s high-value, low-cost gym operator, has opened seven new gyms in December, completing its target of 16 openings for the year and laying the foundations for further expansion in 2026.

The latest openings include four sites in London – White City, Camberwell, Old Kent Road and Loughborough Junction – alongside new gyms in Midsomer Norton, Manchester and Bradford. The additions take The Gym Group’s total estate to 260 locations nationwide, just three months after the business marked the opening of its 250th gym in Tunbridge Wells.

The four new London sites underline the continued availability of opportunities in the capital, where The Gym Group now operates more than 80 gyms across Greater London.

December’s openings have been prioritised to ensure high-quality locations capable of delivering sustainable growth ahead of the traditional January surge in fitness demand. Each of the new gyms features interior design upgrades introduced earlier this year, including a more contemporary look and improved zoning to showcase the breadth and quality of equipment. The changes are designed to enhance member experience and increase appeal among younger demographics, particularly Gen Z.

The expansion is supported by a strong pipeline of well-located properties in urban residential areas, including retail parks and mixed-use developments. Sites are selected using a disciplined, data-led approach to ensure long-term value for both members and landlords, while supporting local regeneration and community wellbeing.

All 16 gyms opened during the year have been funded through free cash flow, and the company has confirmed plans to accelerate its rollout programme in 2026.

Hamish Latchem, Chief Property Officer at The Gym Group, said: “These latest openings across the UK reflect the strength of our model. Accessible fitness has become part of the social infrastructure of communities, driving dependable footfall and supporting the health of our towns and cities. With a strong pipeline of quality sites and a disciplined approach to site selection, we remain focused on our Next Chapter plan, delivering sustainable growth through high-quality new locations.

“As we look ahead to 2026 and beyond, our priority is expansion that creates lasting value for both our members and the properties we operate in. With the refreshed look and feel of our gyms, we continue to deliver a compelling value proposition while meeting the growing demand for high-value, low-cost fitness.”
