Places Leisure aims to improve women’s menopause experience

Places Leisure has partnered with Menopause Movement to deliver a first-of-its-kind course for those looking to improve the experience of women going through Menopause.

The course, which is funded by Wyre Forest District Council using the National Leisure Recovery Fund, will deliver weekly sessions that combine education and discussion on topics that matter such as symptom management, hormones and HRT, myth-busting, menopause and mental health and nutrition) with a different physical activity, each taking place in a welcoming, safe, and non-judgmental environment.

“Having highlighted that there was a community need for this we have worked closely with our partners at Menopause Matters to develop an evidence-based class that will provide a safe and welcoming safe to share experiences, learn, and move together,” said area health and wellbeing manager, Chris Shipway.

By the end of the course participants will have a better understanding of menopause, what happens during each stage, and how exercise can help improve symptoms and quality of life. By offering a range of physical activities to try including table tennis, gym session and a range of different exercise classes, the operator hopes everyone will find a way they can enjoy moving.

This project starts on the 4th of May 2023 and has the support of WFD and Sport England via the National Leisure Recovery Fund.
