David Stalker named chair of ukactive

David Stalker has been announced as the new chair of ukactive.

With more than 35 years’ experience, he previously held the position of CEO of ukactive from 2008 to 2016 and also served as chair of CIMSPA. During his career he has held senior executive positions across the sector, including as CEO of Myzone, President of EuropeActive and non-executive Director of Alliance Leisure.

The appointment follows a rigorous recruitment process led by the Nominations Committee, which attracted applicants with strong experience from a range of industries.

Stalker joins on a three-year term, taking over from Katy Cox, who became interim chair following the departure of Mike Farrar in February. Katy will now resume her position as Treasurer of the Board.

Meanwhile, Melinda Nicci has joined the Board of Directors as its new digital lead.

Melinda has extensive experience in executive positions across the health, fitness and wellness industries, having worked for more than 35 years with brands ranging from Virgin Active and LA Fitness to Phillips and the Body Collective Group (Baby2Body) which she founded in 2015.

Stalker said: ‘It is an honour to be appointed chair of ukactive. Having previously served as CEO of ukactive, it has been hugely rewarding to witness both the growth of the organisation and the sector we serve, and I am looking forward to playing my part in continuing this growth.

‘Throughout my career I have championed the recognition of physical activity as a cornerstone of health and wellbeing, and I will continue to advocate for its role in improving the physical, mental and social wellbeing of our communities.

‘ukactive's members are the engine room of physical activity in the UK and I look forward to supporting the Board, the Executive and the team to help drive our collective mission and reach more people.’

Melinda Nicci, ukactive Board member, said: ‘I am honoured to join the Board of ukactive and to have the chance to help shape the future of our industry. I am excited to help our sector capitalise on the opportunities presented by advances in technology and drive the positive change we can bring to communities by working together.”

Huw Edwards, CEO of ukactive, said: ‘On behalf of the ukactive Board, Executive and staff, we are delighted to welcome David to his new role as Chair of ukactive, and Melinda as the Board’s new Digital Lead.

‘David has committed himself to the sector’s development throughout his career and as a leading advocate of ukactive’s work, will help us continue to grow. And Melinda’s digital expertise and innovative approach will support us to stay ahead in this vital area.

'On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Katy for her support as Interim Chair throughout this transition and we look forward to working with David and Melinda to continue delivering for our members.’
