Everyone Active enters into charity partnership with Dementia UK

Everyone Active is supporting the dementia specialist nurse charity, Dementia UK, to deliver a partnership to raise awareness of dementia and vital funds to support families living with the condition.

The sports and leisure operator has started a year-long partnership with Dementia UK - the only charity that provides specialist dementia nurse support through their Admiral Nurse service. Admiral Nurses provide life-changing support and guidance for families affected by all forms of dementia in communities, hospitals and hospices, on the free national Dementia Helpline, and in clinics.

Dementia is a growing health crisis. Every three minutes, someone in the UK is diagnosed with dementia and more than 900,000 people are currently living with the diagnosis in the UK. This number expected to rise to one million by 2025.

Everyone Active aims to raise £50,000 for the charity which could cover essential operations, including the basic costs of 17,500 people contacting their Dementia Helpline so that they can benefit from life-changing advice and support.

The partnership builds on Everyone Active’s support for those affected by dementia. Earlier this year, the leisure operator provided free memberships to people affected by the condition with the support of Watford Borough Council.

This new partnership will help to raise awareness of the positive impact that being active can have on individuals and families affected by dementia, with research showing that physical activity may improve cognition and mental health, and could also help to reduce the risk of developing the condition.¹

“We have the opportunity to really drive awareness of the condition and also educate people on the role that physical activity can play to help people living with dementia,” says Ben Beevers, group development director at Everyone Active.

“With over 200 leisure and cultural facilities across the UK, we will work closely with our colleagues and customers to raise funds to support the vital work of the charity and help families and carers who dedicate a phenomenal amount to support those close to them.”
