Parkrun events reopen after pandemic

Parkrun has reopened in England, with around 500 events restarting and almost 100,000 walkers, joggers and runners taking part in a 5k parkrun.

The majority of parkrun events were able to restart after landowner permission was secured. Overall walk/run attendance per event was down 11 per cent on the equivalent Saturday in 2019, and the volunteer attendance was up 14 per cent.

More than 6,500 first timers joined the events and no single event exceeding their biggest attendance recorded in the 12 months prior to closure.

The large majority of junior parkruns restared  in England with more than 12,000 juniors walking, jogging and running, supported by more than 5,000 volunteers.

Almost all junior and 5k events in Northern Ireland have now returned and events are expected to return in Scotland from Saturday 14 August and in Wales from Saturday 21 August.
