Tailgating is a thing of the past for the Empowered Fit gym after All Right Now worked with key stakeholders to provide the optimum solution.
The kiosk manufacturer and ID and access control provider, All Right Now, was approached by Empowered Fit, a large gym based in the Wirral. As part of ongoing investment in its facilities, Empowered Fit wanted an access control solution that would prevent non-paying people accessing the gym by tailgating. Empowered Fit already had access control linked to its club management software on the front door. Gym members would scan in using a QR code, but it became apparent that some members were holding the door open for people who hadn’t paid for a membership. The challenge for the team at All Right Now was to provide the best solution to prevent unauthorised people from entering the gym with as little disruption as possible.
The installation would have to be coordinated with key members to ensure a seamless operation:
The solution comprised the following key components - a 900mm wide high glass Firstlane Speedlane and a smart QR code reader on the turnstiles. The 900mm wide Firstlane was chosen because it is robust, able to facilitate access for reduced mobility users and has a high bidirectional throughput which can cope with the volume of members who attend the gym each day. The high glass doors and built in technology would also prevent people from tailgating. The readers are combined QR code and bar code scanners that will read both physical cards and smartphones. ClubWise now has an app which can be used to log into a facility and is becoming a common means of access control. It saves on plastic and makes sharing credentials that much more difficult. Removing the problem of tailgating has meant Empowered Fit has been able to reduce the amount of staff manning the reception area and they can be confident that only paying members are accessing the gym.
